The Morning Paper is mainly a one-man shoegaze project by David Kyhlberg. After making his EP Send Your Cards available on the good old p2p program Soulseek in 2004, the songs managed to find their way to people at Club AC30 in London who then released the track “Charades” on a split.

Despite this achievement, David didn’t record any new music for quite a while after moving from Malmö to Stockholm in 2005. It wasn’t until he met his current co-collaborators Daniel and Ida (who have their own band, The Bridal Shop) that David found his way back to making music. After that, a steady flow of releases followed on a scatter of labels:  the single Making You Up, albums It’s Getting Clearer and What We Wish, and most recently the split single Always Real together with the equally lovely Moscow Olympics

What We Wish is getting a re-release this March on Philippine Universal Records, and will feature a bonus track and a new cover. I urge any fans of shoegaze and ambient pop to check it out, as it is beautiful album. The overall sound is quite reminiscent of The Radio Dept. - a synthesizer layered chill where the vocals provide glimpses of warmth, like sunshine breaking through on a cloudy winter day. Ida lends her sheer voice on five of the tracks while David sings on the rest that aren’t instrumentals.

Next up for The Morning Paper is another split release together with fellow Swede Ace Gear on the label Hiccup and hopefully some live shows, which is where David’s friend Daniel steps in to lend a helping hand.
