A Fine Mess
The Ropes

Where is my mind? I’ve been meaning to write about New York duo The Ropes for weeks now, yet only remember to when Sean posts their latest video. Thank goodness for Sean!
While their official site is rather sparse on biographical info (other than “We are The Ropes. We want to fight you.”) their MySpace is a bit more generous in that regard. The Ropes formed in 2005 and are vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and multi-instrumentalist Toppy. Their discography so far consists of the EP Cry to the Beat, full length album What They Do For Fun and the brand new EP Be My Gun.
The title track from the new EP is a slightly dark, solid indie-rock tune where Sharon sings “I’m a bullet, will you be my gun?” while surrounded by gritty, swirling guitars. “Kitty Get Down” follows pretty much the same formula, showcasing the gloomy glam pop as their sound. I haven’t had the chance to hear the third and final track from the EP yet so I can’t do a proper review, but two good tracks out of three is a pretty promising, I’d say!
Be My Gun can be purchased via iTunes as well as the band’s website.

No need to steal if it’s free and legal. Which this is.
