A Fine Mess
O’Spada – “Time”

Swedish O’Spada makes sparkling dance music, and if the song “Time” is anything to go by they have thick layer of 80s flavour sprinkled on top of their sound. The label describes them as “a bastard child between Prince, Jackson 5 and Justice” so I guess I’m not completely wrong in my observation. The band took their name after lead singer Julia Spada, and as you can see on their MySpace they have been cute and all added an “O’” to their first names. “Time” is their first single from the up-coming debut album which will be released in no less than 15 countries later this year.

Ha, I ended up deleting this without listening, all based on that description!

I’m just super burned out on ‘a wacky mix of Justice + random 80s artist + random 70s artist’.

RE @sean
As a label rep. for Despotz Records I can understand that some people are tired of similar descriptions, we just needed a short description that people could relate to. But I hope you listened to the track anyway as this is just a first taste of what’s to come this autumn. We have so many great tracks to share with you all!

Well I was being a bit prickish, wasn’t I? Mea culpa. It’s not anything directed at the artist or Despotz. I love you guys, and Twiggy Frostbite and The Deer Tracks are two of my favorites this year. I’ve just been on the receiving end of so many ‘this is mega, sounds like Justice and [insert random artists here]‘ emails lately that I’ve become a bit burned out on the whole thing. Totally unfair to take it out on these guys, obviously.
And clearly I understand what it’s like for a label or pr rep, people need a touchstone to latch onto to get them excited and drummed up. I’m just being an old crank!
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that the things one says on the internet are available for review by everyone!

Oh shut up Sean, you’re entitled to your opinion. Ok that sounded wrong.
