I don’t particularly like doing best of lists but I felt the need to make up for my slack around here lately, hence this mix. Basically it’s songs that stood out for me during the year or represent albums I listened to a lot. It’s probably a bit inconclusive because a) I can’t remember everything I listened to and, b) I currently have a headache which gives me a free pass for not spending a lot of time compiling this. The mix is divided into two parts and consist of the following artists and tracks:
Part 1 [Download]
Autopilot Is For Lovers – “Come Now”
Hello Seahorse! – “El Segundo”
A Horse And His Boy – “Sidewalks”
Tegan And Sara – “On Directing”
The Mary Onettes – “Symmetry”

Phantogram – “Futuristic Casket”
Bat For Lashes – “Sleep Alone”
Linda Mirada – “Solo”
Beach House – “Silver Soul”
Kent – “Krossa Allt”
Band Of Skulls – “Bomb”
deVries – “What a Wasted Life”
Gliss – “Lovers In The Bathroom”
Florence and The Machine – “Cosmic Love”
Part 2 [Download]
Taken By Trees – “The Greyest Love Of All”
POLLYester – “Run In My Stocking”
Lay Low – “I Forget It’s There”
City Of Satellites – “Control”
Friska Viljor – “If I Die Now”
Jesca Hoop – “Whispering Light”
Zero 7 – “Swing”
Little Dragon – “A New”

This morning I came across a great mixtape of Japanese and Korean music made by a girl called Rinkymoon over at LiveJournal. She kindly gave me permission to re-post it here which I’m very happy about because this mix (despite its title) is cracking. It’s mostly indie, shoegaze and post-rock, so if you’re into that and haven’t heard much of Japanese/Korean music you should definitely download it.

I’ve accumulated a lot of CDs over the years. A rather large portion of them have been in the basement for some time, either because I didn’t listen to them anymore or just didn’t want them cluttering up the apartment. But neither of those reasons mean I don’t like them (although some I might consider a bit embarrassing) so I decided to take a bunch up with me and make a mixtape out of them. And here’s the result. Bit of an odd mix perhaps, but like most I’ve had a varied taste in music over the years:

This is a mixtape I made sometime last year. It’s rather (er, very) silly but it was fun to make. I’d all forgotten about it but was reminded when I realized that my oldest niece is already a young teenager. Not that she’s a brat! Well maybe sometimes…

~ The Coathangers – “Don’t Touch My Shit!”, The Model – “Success” ~

Today is Sweden’s National Day, which I will not be celebrating by watching the royal family wave at their minions on TV. No, listening music is much better, hence this mixtape of Swedish music, obscure as well-known. That, and eating strawberries with ice cream. Enjoy!

I got a sudden urge to throw together a cheesy 80s mix of songs I used to listen to as a kid on my Walkman, much like the one Kim Wilde is sporting in the picture.
Consider yourself warned though: I was mainly into pop music alá Madonna back then; The Smiths and the like didn’t enter my record collection well into my teens. (Okay that’s not completely true but since I wanted a strictly cheesy mix I had to exclude some of more “credible” bands and artists I may have listened to back then)
Once again this is a Spotify mix so if you don’t have access to the program you can’t listen. It sucks, I know, but apparently there are some workarounds on how to get an account despite living in a country where Spotify supposedly isn’t available yet. I’ll let you seek out those on your own though.
Those of you who have access can find the playlist here. Some of the artists included besides the already mentioned: Billy Idol, Sandra, Ofra Haza, Pet Shop Boys, Samantha Fox and Eurythmics.
Enjoy my cheesy stroll down memory lane!

Valentine’s Day is coming this weekend, Saturday to be exact. I told myself that I wasn’t going to do a mix but then I got bored and – voila!
It’s a rather mellow yet experimental and perhaps, at times, a bit depressing blend of songs… you get the picture. Basically a little something for everyone depending on your feelings towards Valentine’s: some love it, some hate it, some just don’t really care…
But regardless of what you think of this commercially fabricated holiday, remember: If anything, it gives you a good excuse to eat a lot of chocolate, heart-shaped or not.

Like Christian Bale, I’ve had a pretty miserable week.
Not that anything in particular happened, I’ve just felt incredibly gloomy and angry at the world.
I’ve avoided answering the telephone and then sulked because I’m lonely; wished my cat would go away and then hugged her like there’s no tomorrow; stayed in bed most of the day knowing very well that will only make me feel worse - logic is clearly not my strong suit.
So my emotional roller coaster is this week’s theme for my Spotify playlist. Hopefully you can all listen to it despite the recent changes Spotify were forced to make. Some of the artists featured: Graham Coxon, The Concretes, Lily Allen, Frida Hyvönen and Ryan Adams.

I think this is a really cute idea. In the past I’ve considered giving out anonymous postcards and letters to strangers as a surprise but this is even better. Too bad I’m paranoid about getting caught. Don’t want some grumpy old man wondering why you have your fingers down his mail slot. OK, that just sounded wrong…

Another Spotify playlist, this time a rather mellow one as I’ve been incredibly lazy this week (same goes for my cat, hence the picture). Amongst the artists included: Brendan Perry, Lykke Li, Roxy Music, Great Lake Swimmers, Fever Ray… Listen.
