Jay-Z vs. Sleigh Bells…
Aug 17th

Yes, this is an actual…thing. Someone (DJ O-Face, to be precise) took my beloved Sleigh Bells and mashed them up with Jay-Z. Perhaps it isn’t as horrible if you’re a fan of him – it might even be good in that case – but since I’ve never really liked his music, this is rather painful for me. Plus I can’t really take mash-ups seriously anymore and supposedly this is to be taken seriously. But that’s my personal opinion. Make your own by going here and listen. And hey, if you like it, you can download it for free. Although I’d much rather see you pick up a copy of Sleigh Bell’s debut album Treats instead…
International Women’s Day 2009
Mar 8th

Some say that feminism is no longer needed as men and women are equal in today’s western world. Bullshit, I say. That’s like claiming that racism or homophobia no longer exists. Women are still getting beaten, raped, murdered and discriminated on a daily bases in what is supposed to be a modern and civilised society.
I don’t care if “feminism” is considered an embarrassing word. Just the fact that it is proves that something is terribly wrong. What was supposed to empower women is now working against them, and mostly by women themselves who are afraid of being labeled as “unfeminine” or a “man hater” if they call themselves a feminist.
Fine, if you don’t have the guts to reclaim the word then at least proclaim yourself as being for women’s rights. Because we still need change, and when (if?) that’s done there’s the rest of the world to deal with, a world that’s even more behind when it comes to women’s rights to the degree where women are barely recognized as human beings but as property of men. How’s that for equality?
The international women’s day has been celebrated since 1911 and aims to highlight “the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future” as well as what still needs to be done to reach equality between men and women. More information about its history and present state can be found at this website.
Robyn Vs Britney – Huh?
Mar 29th

Wired Magazine have for some reason decided to dub Robyn as the latest “The Anti-Britney”. Although they both make pop music, I really don’t think they have that much in common musically or artistically. But since the media seem to love to kick on those who are down (Spears), Wired just had to go and make a stupid comparison between the two of them since they’re both female and roughly the same age, and have careers that at the moment seem to be going in opposite directions.
Now, I don’t mind that they’re praising Robyn, but I don’t understand why it has to be at Britney’s expense. I’m so sick of seeing female artists, whatever their credibility, be pitched against each other in the media just to make “news”. Especially at such stupid comparisons as to the different reasons each woman shaved her head (Robyn to “sharpen her image”, Britney “in an apparent cry for help”). Not to mention the fact that they deliberately leave out any negative press Robyn has ever gotten, making her look like the perfect angel next to the now “tragic” Spears.
“Article” after the jump.
