~ Sugar Army – “Tongues In Cheeks” ~
Nice surprise from Australia. Quality alternative rock with good hooks and melodies, and the singer has a voice that stands out. From their debut The Parallels Amongst Ourselves.
~ Low Sea – “Save My Soul” ~
A lazy, hazy shoegaze tune that feels like a cool breeze on a day as hot as this. From the Irish duo’s album Las Olas.
~ Pascal Pinon – “I Wrote a Song” ~
Cozy folk-pop from Iceland. Several of their songs are in Icelandic but a couple – like this little wistful tune – have English lyrics. I absolutely recommend their self-titled album.
~ 800Beloved – “1992″ ~
This shoegaze/post-punk band shouldn’t need much of an introduction, I hope (I’ve featured them before, after all). They completely won me over with their debut and while their new effort is still growing on me, this track was love at first listen.
~ Dark Dark Dark – “Wild Goose Chase” ~
The closing track on their EP Bright Bright Bright, “Wild Goose Chase” is nothing but stunning in its tentativeness. Love love love.

Metric – “Waves”
As my imaginary ex-husband reported yesterday, Metric are back! “Waves” is supposedly a b-side to their new album Fantasies, although don’t quote me on that. A cute track that makes me glad they’ve returned.
800beloved – “Mortgage Your Organs”
Garage shoegaze, if there is such a thing. From their debut album Bouquet which I’m planning to review in the near future (but I can tell you already that it’s great). “Mortgage Your Organs” is definitely my song of the week as it is completely intoxicating but also slightly morbid lyric-wise. Although the title probably gave that away.
zZz – “Angel” (No Tricks Remix)
Despite their name this song is far from a snoozer. Sharp electro rock that’s gotten an added bit of umph! courtesy of No Tricks. It also features male vocals that sounds like he’s trying to pick you up at a sleazy bar. Now how can you resist that?
Still Flyin’ – “Good Thing It’s a Ghost Town Around Here”
Fun song by a fun band. Upbeat ska pop that reminds me of good old bands like The Specials and Madness with a flurry of instruments and singers. Like riding a roller coaster (except I hate roller coasters but for some reason I can’t get that simile our of my head when listening to this).
Digitalism – “Taken Away” (Fredrick Carlsson Remix)
I honestly haven’t heard the original of this one so I can’t say if Fredrick Carlsson made it better or not, but I really like it. Good dance tune to welcome the weekend with. Get taken away! Oh, and if you head over to his Myspace you can download Fredrick’s EP for free.
