Why yes, it’s another remix! (i.e. a slacker post)
Bat For Lashes‘ beautiful single “Daniel” has once again gotten a make-over, this time by a lady called Tara Busch. (I’m assuming it’s not the wrestler or nude model that pops up in Google search)
Like the Josh Reichman cover I posted recently it doesn’t beat the original by any means but it’s still a pretty good listen. The layers have been peeled off, creating a whole different setting for the song. A bit spooky, a bit alien.
Give it a try.
ETA: You can watch Tara explain how she made the remix here!

Another cover and this time it’s Josh Reichmann Oracle Band who has taken on the gorgeous song “Daniel”, originally by Bat For Lashes.
While it’s easy to argue that the original is perfect as it is (which it is), Reichmann’s stripped down folk version is good in its own right. This isn’t the first cover he does though, Reichmann has also recorded interpretations of songs by Deerhunter and Bill Callahan. So why so many covers?
“I’m aiming with these covers o showcase the songwriting that I think is strongest by these artists and reference there production but put my spin on them- which is to bring a raw strange life to there voices and re-contextualize or open up the lyrical themes to new dimensions. I only cover things that feel soulful or timeless, something I strive for in my music.”
Of course, it’s also a good way to get attention. Reichmann is releasing the “Daniel” mp3 in celebration of his debut album Strange Power being out now on Paper Bag Records.

There really isn’t much to say about Bat For Lashes‘ sophomore album other than that it’s really, really good. Great even. There - shortest review ever. Fine, I’ll try to elaborate a bit more than that.
Two Suns has made me convinced what the debut Fur and Gold made many think, that Bat For Lashes (real name Natasha Khan) is the modern day Kate Bush. Not that there’s anything wrong with the actual Kate Bush, but she’s been rather quiet for a long time now. Plus Khan reminds me of Kate Bush back in the day: the more experimental, eccentric musician that somehow also managed to remain elegant and balanced. With her sheer voice and exotic blend of musical influences (how about some oriental gospel?) Khan got that pinned down as well. She’s the sophisticated hippie that creates dreamscapes and beautiful illusions that you wish were still tangible after the music has stopped playing.
Two Suns is set for release on April 6th and will be accompanied by a UK tour which will be supported by the similarly spacey School of Seven Bells. Unfortunately I’m not allowed to put up an mp3 from the Bat For Lashes album, so here’s a song by said supporting band instead. Because that totally makes sense.
