Memory Cassette – “Calls and Responses”

Electronic act Memory Cassette are offering a free EP consisting of remixes by Friend, CFCF, Weird Tapes, Sail A Whale, and Shadow Self in celebration of the release of the Call and Response EP.

Though the original vinyl EP is sold out, limited copies are still available in selected stores and you can also buy it digitally (check out Acephale Records for links and more info).

As for the free remix EP, besides music it is also said to include artwork for each song, all made by Chris Cantalini. To download, go here. It has a very fresh, summer feeling to it.

Yes, that’s Dave Gahan singing in the chorus. But that’s not the only reason why you should give this song a listen. Because the combination of frYars mature voice (he’s only 19) and Gahan’s recognizable vocals make this electro tune sound like a forgotten hit from the 1980s.

~ Cherbourg“The Mill” ~
One of those oh-rip-my-heart-out-why-don’t-you and please-don’t-ever-end kind of tracks, purely because it’s so damn beautiful. British indie folk that I can only but highly recommend to anyone and everyone. From their EP Last Chapter Of Dreaming.

~ These Are Powers“Double Double Yolk” ~
Experimental electronica with kooky vocals, lyrics and sounds. Addicting I’m telling you. The album as a whole is a bit too whimsical for me though.

~ Evening Magazine“18 Wheels” ~
Sweet indie-pop that I meant to rec sooner but couldn’t because of Computer Fail ‘09. Nice combo of male/female vocals and a simple but effective chorus with handclaps. From their EP Ride Across Lake Constance which has more good songs on it.

~ Woodhands“Dancer” (CFCF Remix) ~
The original is a fun party track, but CFCF’s remix turns it into a relaxing down-tempo with a bit of a 90’s vibe to it, which really suits the female vocals.
