Keith Canisius – “Waves”

Keith Canisius has been featured on I Am The Crime before, but then as a part of the wonderful Danish shoegaze band Rumskib. He’s released a solo album before though and now it’s time for number two, Waves, which will be out around late October on Quince Records. Keith’s own music runs in the same shoegaze/dream pop veins as Rumskib, but with a slightly softer touch to it. Have a listen to the title track from the upcoming album and see what you make of it. Personally I quite like it.

I seem to be on a shoegaze high lately. I just can’t get enough and there are so many bands I want to write about. Denmark’s Rumskib make a fine first choice though.
Originally a duo, Rumskib got its start in 2001 when formed by Keith and Tine Louise with the aim to merge dream pop together with shoegaze. In 2006 the band expanded as Boe, Rune and Kristian joined the live performances and a year later the self-titled debut was released.
Consisting of Tina Louise’s fair voice, screeching guitars, distorted soundframes and irresistible melodies, Rumskib’s first album has quickly become a personal favorite of mine. They’re like a harsher version of Cocteau Twins (although they have their own soft moments as well).
The band are currently working on their second album as well as on a shoegaze compilation where they will be covering Slowdive’s song “Shine”. Founding member Keith Canisius also has a solo album out, titled Ferris Wheel Makeout which sounds very promising.
