The Rest – “Everyone All At Once”
Feb 19th
The Rest must be one of the best kept secrets in Canada. How else can I explain why I haven’t’ heard of this wonderful band until the upcoming release their sophomore album?
Reminding me of already established bands such as The Decemberists and The Arcade Fire, The Rest are still a great addition in themselves to the ever expanding indie scene. Adam Bentley’s falsetto voice is one that stands out and the music itself is beautifully arranged and layered.
The creation of Everyone All At Once began in the spring of 2007 when the seven band members withdrew from the urban world and secluded themselves together in isolation with nothing but “food, clothes, alcohol, and a van full of instruments”. After much writing and playing (and perhaps some howling at the moon) they all each returned to their modern city lives, eventually taking on the task to record the madness they had created.
The result is a stunning record that no doubt will leave an emotional imprint on anyone who listens. From the more obvious melodic songs to the more subdued ones, Everyone All At Once is solid from start to finish.
