The Zut Alors “Take Take Take”

Quite a bit has happened since I first featured Nick Bennett aka The Zut Alors on the blog. An EP has been released and now a new single has popped up as well. “Take Take Take” is its name and follows in the same style as the previous songs: dark indie-electronica (or ‘bedroom pop’ as Nick prefers to call it) that’s absolutely delectable. Don’t trust me? Have a listen for yourselves:

The ZUT ALORs

Though he’s only been at it since November of last year, Nick Bennett – the man behind the moniker The ZUT ALORs (a French phrase which can be translated into a variety of mild cuss words such as ”dammit” ) - is already finding success with his music.

Playing all the instruments himself while using a MacBook to record, Nick refers to his sound as “bedroom pop”. As a Nashville resident he (reluctantly) admits that its musical culture has rubbed off on him somewhat but states that his major influences come from France.  Fact is, Nick proclaims to be ”completely in love with French music, from Yves Montand to Ed Banger Records!” (though he’s admittedly crap at the language) and lists Air and Daft Punk amongst his absolute favorites.

The ZUT ALORs’ own sound is far from the French electronica though - it’s more like gritty indie-pop with a dark streak to it (“The Killing Kind”), but inspired by the arrangements and moods of said bands, something which can be heard especially on the track “Your Time”.

Though he’s still in the midst of collecting musicians for a band Nick is set to premier The ZUT ALORs live at END in Nashville on March 12, 2009. New songs are also in the works with an eventual EP or full-length album release to come. So keep your ears pealed, zut alors!
